The safety features of work trousers explained

It’s no secret why the hardest-working and most hazardous workplaces normally require workers to wear special clothing.  It’s particularly true for businesses in the trades, construction and engineering, but there’s also a place for highly specialised clothing in just about every industry – providing comfort, practicality and protection for the boys and girls on the ground who make it all happen.  But it’s definitely not enough to just ask your workers to wear black work trousers – because work wear is highly specialised for particular tasks while some workplaces and jurisdictions require work trousers and other gear to be specifically certified for legal reasons.

Which particular safety features do your workers require for their stylish black work trousers?:

  1. High-viz

It’s not just a combination of high-visibility colours such as orange-reds and yellows that keep workers visible in any light conditions, but also retroflective features and materials that shoot a light beam back to the source.

  1. Flame-retardant

Highly-specialised materials replete with specific chemicals and additives provide workers with protection against both flames but also the heat, and are also formulated to be melt-resistant.

  1. Knee padding

The knees can take some serious punishment for trades including plumbers, mechanics and electricians, so those black work pants can feature in-built padding or even the ability to easily accommodate extra and replaceable knee pads in special pouches.

  1. Water-proofing

There’s nothing worse than working in wet or damp environments and having to cope with being moist or sodden for the rest of the work day.  It’s achieved with materials blended with water-resistant chemicals and additives that are also good at keeping out many non-water liquids, although even more resistant work trousers can be purchased for extra chemical protection.

  1. Hard-wearing/durable materials

It’s actually hard to find specialised work trousers that are not made with impressively hard-wearing and durable materials that won’t just stand the test of time but will keep the skin underneath safer from cuts, scrapes and abrasions.

  1. Pockets/loops

Just about all work trousers will have pockets, but the beauty of today’s diverse product range means you get to pick the exact configuration you require.  Have the holsters, tool loops and other storage for the gear you need on those trousers so that the hands are conveniently free to work without extra risk in often perilous locations and situations.

  1. Stretch fabric/panels

A worker is only as safe as they can be if they have full range of motion when at work – especially when bending.  Some black work trousers feature already-bent knee sections for those who spend a lot of the time with their knees bent, or stretch panels in strategic places that need to be in regular motion.  4-way stretch fabrics that act like spandex but are much tougher, meanwhile, make work trousers comfortable no matter what the wearer is up to.

As well as those key safety features, all that’s standing between the black work trousers your particular workers require and getting back to work is selecting the perfect combination of fabric, fit and style.  For a full range of work trousers visit RS.
